And soon this POS will be getting what he deserves right up his ____.

Or maybe he was just the patsy.

Link to the official USAO SDNY statement: http://www.justice.gov/usao/nys/pressreleases/july12/bitarraymondarrestands8indictment.html

... which outlines the new criminal charges against him.  He is now facing 145 years in prison.  If he throws himself on the mercy of the court and behaves himself, maybe he will get out in 20 years.  Or maybe 20 pieces.

His lobster eating days are over.

"Bitar bluffed his player-customers and fixed the game against them as part of an international Ponzi scheme that left players empty-handed."

You read it right or else I'm reading it wrong...

Quote from: US Atty Ofc Release
Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Janice K. Fedarcyk, the Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) announced that RAYMOND BITAR, the Chief Executive Officer of Full Tilt Poker, was arrested this morning at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

I'm not sure where OP is getting "surrenders" from.  Looks to me like he was dumb enough to set foot on US soil and the DOJ was well informed of it.  Perhaps he was set up, but either way there's a leak.

I think he arranged for his surrender.  Flew in special from Dublin to do it.

Thanks, that wasn't mentioned in the release.  Now I'm puking over how they arranged his surrender, then pulled a lifetime of jail out of a hat after the fact.  That's probably premeditated and really scary.  Not that I have sympathy for Bitar, but it's troubling that they'll just openly scam a guy out of his life over a civil offense.

Agree it is very underhanded how the gov. added more charges once they got him back on U.S. soil.

I have to believe however that his attorney's had probably advised him of this possibility.

Wonder if he is in p.c. or general pop?   LOL

There's just a ton about this I don't get.  Why did he surrender in the first place?  Even before he was basically facing life in the pen, he still had the potential of years to serve.  Why he wouldn't stay nice and cozy with no threat of extradition in Ireland is beyond me.

I thought I had read he was facing imminent extradition so he chose to surrender.  (can't remember where though, prob nvg, lol)

If however he was not looking at being extradited,   then,   well,  Huh?Huh?Huh?,   scratch head,     ...

Moral reasons?   Grin

I think if he was facing extradition it would be in about every article on his surrender, and I have not read that. That doesn't mean the surrender was voluntary. It was probably part of the FTP/DoJ/Poker Stars deal. All I know is whatever sympathy I had for Bitar (after all, he was originally indicted because he allowed US players to play poker) was lost when I learned that he and Burtnick paid themselves millions after BF.

Pokerstars & Full Tilt Deal looks headed for possible collapse

DOJ once again shows they don't care about the American People, they want Bitar tried weather anyone owed money
by Full Tilt ever gets paid back, Bitar was to sign off on the deal, now in light of what the FBI did, there's no way Bitar
will agree to any terms with Pokerstars whats so ever until the DOJ drops all charges, thats a givin

It don't take a brain scientist to see this deal is almost dead in the water thanks to the scum DOJ

It also don't take a brain scientist to see the odds of conviction is less than 1% chance, this will be a lose lose situation for everyone,
then after 10 million dollars in legal fees, Full Tilt sues are Gov. for Billions in damages

Another sad day in the poker books

Actually, if it wasn't for the DOJ, there is no way any player would be paid by FTP.

I'm pretty sure that Bitar is going to jail for a while.

Have no idea how this could possibly be construed as being bad for the deal.

True but probably misleading.  Granted, it seems pretty obvious FTP was never gonna pay us.  But that doesn't mean our chances are any better now that the DOJ stepped in.

I'll give them credit when the checks show up.  But they seem to kebash every deal to make FTP viable, so I'm not exactly brimming with confidence.

Which viable deal did they "kebash"?  Tapie wanted to pay $100 per player, and the rest as a bonus for continued play.  I hardly call that viable.  Everyone else has said no on their own accord.  FTP is way too much in debt to just buy.

I'm not exactly brimming with confidence on the PS deal myself.  But this is all FTP's doing.

Tilt has a roughly $300 million dollar shortfall.  Everyone isn't getting paid back; no one is pulling a 9 digit sum of money out of their ass to pay Tilt's debts.  It's silly to think that's even feasible.  So is it not better to accept partial payment than none at all?  That deal Tapie offered was what I'm referring to, and obviously anything Stars offered didn't suit the DOJ either.  So they'll eat the liquid assets in fees (they are claiming tens of millions in fines and damages) and we won't see dime one.

I'm not saying it isn't FTP's fault.  I'm saying the DOJ isn't our knight in shining armor.  I highly doubt they're going to get us a penny back.  I don't see why one would expect that they will, given the circumstances.  They don't seem particularly interested in helping us recoup our losses.
