There is also one I can't find right now where Romney goes on record that he is against online gaming.

I noticed that PNR seems to be really keeping up with the very latest, this URL is a nice timeline summary and also has the most recent 5 or 6 "news" items:

Quick question: all of the articles I read say that the players from Full Tilt will be paid their funds (possibly, etc.). Is Full Tilt done for, or are they going to start up again?
A secondary question: do you think I'd be able to keep my funds in Full Tilt's system and access them when/if online poker is ruled legal in the US? Or will the DOJ require all US players to liquidate their funds?
A tertiary question: what happens to the players who do not get their funds repaid? Does the money disappear?
(I realize that the answers to these are kinda murky. I'm looking for opinions mostly, but answers if they are out there)
Thanks!

There are no absolute guaranteed answers. Just a bunch of probability guesses, the news of the past week* has made that probability go up and down and up ... but definitely no insta-drop to flatline (as of today @ 530pm EST anyway
)
*such as (up)

and (down)

... and BarryG1 publicly stating what he essentially didn't "have to" share with the class:

(1) I supposes ROW players have some shot of eventually getting paid by GBT, but nothing is guaranteed. What do you mean by FTP? If you are talking about the the company that used to be run by d-bags Bitar, Lederer, and Ferguson, et al, that company is finished, and the d-bags will never be able to set foot in this country again. If you are only talking about the software, it will probably appear in some form somewhere in the future.
(2) Even if FTP is sold, and the US (or, more likely, some states in the US) starts to regulate i-poker, it is unlikely that "FTP 2" would ever be granted a license to operate here. Your question is moot.
(3) The DOJ might throw a few pennies our way, but most of the money has been stolen by d-bags Bitar, Lederer, and Ferguson.

1. Full Tilt Poker is in the process of being sold to Groupe Bernard Tapie, a French company known for flipping struggling companies. They've flipped many companies in the past, including Adidas. GBT has said they plan on keeping the Full Tilt name, but the actual company will be no more. Full Tilt Poker (or FTP2 as people are calling it) will just be a product offered by GBT.
The sale is not final, and the deal could fall through, but ROW players have a good shot at getting their money back.
2. When online poker becomes legal in the US, I think Full Tilt Poker has a good shot at getting a licence. They are square with the US gov't, by forfeiting all assets to the US gov't (which will then be sold to GBT). Since they are square with the gov't, and with new owners and management, they are essentially clean. Also, I don't think GBT would even consider buying FTP without the possibility of getting a licence to operate in the US.
3. I think some of the money already seized from payment processors, and the money made via the deal with GBT, will be used to pay back players. The DoJ has referred to FTP players as "victims of a ponzi scheme", so I think, by law, they have to attempt to return that money to the US players. Not sure of the percentage, and they'll probably have to pay tax on it, but players should see a good portion of their money....eventually.

I have read that the doj has no obligation to pay out funds, from which they have seized.
Who knows how much that is, but if they do seize about 300 mil or so, and keep it, not sure how that would play out either.
Also if they decide to pay back using seized money,
how do they determine how much, and how does this affect non us countries.
depends on the going rate of pot/coke being smuggled into the US
How do the class actions suits work, if the DOJ seizes the accounts. Do the lawsuits have access this money?
I have no frekin idea.
But
anyone who is still supporting full tilt, needs to run really hard into a wall head first.
agreed
jus saying.
notice that there is yet to appear any hearing, dates for lawsuit trials, etc.

If GBT had any interest in the US market, they would be willing to pay back the US players. By not doing so, they have made a clear statement they have no interest in the US.
And lets not forget, Tapie spent time in jail for fixing a soccer game. Of course, only a crook would have any interest in buying this crooked company.

You make a good point, Elf. Still, that's $150,000,000 extra they would have to spend. Given that buying FTP is a big gamble, I think they'd want to spend as little as possible. They're already on the hook for the ROW funds, which is around 150 million. Who knows what was said in the talks between the DoJ and GBT, but I really don't think GBT would purchase FTP unless there's a possibility of them entering the US market again in the future. I also don't think they'd buy FTP unless they were confident US players would get their money. A promise of US players getting their money may have been part of the deal. Who knows.

Goodbye from Subject: Poker
http://www.subjectpoker.com/2012/02/goodbye/
Quote
February 4, 2012 - 5:21 PM EST
By Noah Stephens-Davidowitz
Subject: Poker will not be publishing any more articles.
Currently, Thomas Bakker and I are starting a poker security consulting company.1 As a result, I can no longer guarantee my independence as editor-in-chief. Subject: Poker‘s founding principle is independence, so it would be inappropriate for me to continue Subject: Poker.
The website will stay up with all articles intact for the foreseeable future, but it will naturally become a bit of a relic as time passes and no new articles are added. I hope that it will continue to prove a useful resource for the poker community.
Diamond Flush has decided to start a new poker news site,
Diamond Flush Poker
. Diamond has been an incredible member of our team who’s written many of our most important articles, including the first story to mention Full Tilt’s french investor; our story correcting the AGCC’s false numbers; all stories related to the pending deal between GBT, FTP, and the DOJ; our recent story exposing Chris Ferguson’s secret bank accounts; and many others. DFP will be inheriting much of our data, sources, and research as well. We look forward to getting our news from there, and we recommend that our readers do the same.
Subject: Poker‘s farewell has been in the works for a while now. In particular, to avoid accepting money under false pretenses, we simply broke our donations link two weeks ago, and nobody has donated to us since. We will now restore the link. Our modest sum of unspent donations and any future donations to Subject: Poker will go to our various maintenance fees, with any surplus going (lovingly) to Diamond’s new site. If any of our donors do not agree with this decision, they can simply e-mail
team@subjectpoker.com
for a prompt refund (less PayPal’s transaction fees).
Subject: Poker‘s only payments have been for various maintenance fees, PACER bills, transport costs, and two company lunches. In particular, nobody has profited off of the site.
So, goodbye. We’ve enjoyed keeping the poker community informed for the past eight or nine months. Thanks for being a part of that. We hope Diamond Flush will be able to bring us some good news.
Looks like Noah is letting other sites take up the torch, he did such a good job in getting Poker News Sites to smarten the hell up, get better sources and be more clear about what is objectively true and what is speculation/rumormill. So good for him, moving on to a new business venture, no point in him dedicating so much free time to an advertising-free website that isn't even the "best" for "latest news" anymore (pokerfuse and a few others have definitely improved since last summer when S:J started, imo thanks to Noah's integrity and openness).
Anyway, what other sites do you guys rely on for frequently-updated, and accurate-more-often-than-not "independent poker news" ? Reply here...

Time to burn those Addias ...
http://www.mattglantzpoker.com/blog/
"Unfortunately I feel based on their recent actions, I believe it is inevitable that Tapie will be backing out. It looks to me that for whatever reasons they have no real interest in acquiring FTP. The reasons why they are hanging around giving the illusion that they are still interested are unclear. One can assume that Tapie has some ulterior motives for staying involved and they are just using the vulnerability of FTP to serve other purposes. They might think the publicity of them being a possible White Knight is positive for their own shady reputation. They also might be trying to use the publicity in the upcoming months to promote their stadium tournament in Europe, an event they have been working on for years. They have been publicly trashing the individual players who allegedly owe money to FTP. The truth is that some if not most of the players Tapie has outed do not have the money to pay the company back and it is not going to happen. One can assume that Tapie is only doing this to save face, so when they officially back out of the deal they will have public names to blame."

Yeah, I read that article last night, and it was pretty depressing. Mostly because a lot of it makes sense. I've remained calm through the 'Several FTP pros owe us money' fiasco, because I never bought that pros owing FTP money made their financial situation worse. But looking back, Tapie lawyers also said that FTP's financial situation is worse than expected. This could sound like they're almost ready to walk away from the deal.
A few points didn't really make sense, though. I don't buy the whole 'Tapie might be drawing out the due diligence process knowing he isn't going to acquire FTP because it's free publicity for his ISPT (International Stadium Poker Tour). A massive poker tourney in Wembly Stadium with a prize pool of $20,000,000 doesn't really need free press. It'll generate enough on it's own. I also don't buy Tapie using the 'White Knight' thing as a way to salvage their own tarnished reputation.
Of course, Glantz was only speculating, and the deal could still fall through even with the above points being moot. I read an article last Friday that said, according to insiders, the possibility of the deal going through ranged from definitely not happening to up and running in two weeks. So, I'm not throwing in the towel until the deal is officially dead.
I don't expect it to happen, but you never know.
Anyhoo, the article depressed me so much I ate an entire pizza and watched Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
