i honestly believe the game has passed him by. Nothing in his earlier books is relevant in any way today.

I have no interest at all in this, and probably will not read another book on poker until one of the better online mass tablers write one. My biggest issue with most of the forumers at FT was that most of them seemed to have no clue about the environment they were playing in. They had no clue of ranges of what players played , at certain levels, and they never seemed to understand or adapt to that. That is why i think most of them had 6000 posts, and 200 games played. Since Phil Gordon hasnt had success in playing online, then how can this book be relevant?

I honestly think if players want to get better, by far the best source on information out there is pimpindonks videos on sharkscope. I dont think anyone who posted anything on FTs forums came close to what he did or what he taught.

virtually word-for-word what the linked article starts off with... then the rest of the article is an actual non-pre-judging review of the new book.

The review points out it is NOT for a "beginner" player -- it presumes you are looking for advanced concepts. Apparently it contains some :gasp: Actually New Material from Mr. Gordon. And the end has some Q&A/Quiz thingie with 3 of the Young Guns -- Gordon acknowledging he has much to learn from them online uber-LAGs...

So, prolly worth skimming through at the bookstore or getting from the library, at the very least.

Agreed in theory -- just saying that Gordon acknowledged all of this "being left behind by the new blood" problem, and tries to address it by talking about CONCEPTS (apparently) rather than just dictating a strategy that is loloutdatedaments. And he talks with a few of those LAGs to get their perspectives.

Curious, horse, have you checked out ElkY's book yet? ("Raiser's Edge")

re. pimpindonks -- hell yeah! Also a few others on SharkScopers.com got me strongly considering "buying" a few dozen video credits. But pimpin's whole MTSNG series would be first on the list for sure.

Yeah, he's def worthy of watching. He was one of the regulars my brother played against and had dialogue with.

As for PG's books...you know what they're good for? They're a baseline and good for someone who could use a basic understanding of poker. To understand things like "being unpaired in the hole and missing the flop 67% of the time" type of information. A casual player who enjoys the game, my mom, a police officer in Mayberry and Joe who hosts the weekly garage game in suburb USA.

When you're taking the game to the level of true profitability and as a career...you'll seek more...but many of us started out by reading these types of books especially before the boom of online coaching. I wouldn't completely negate them horse...just because you've moved beyond that part of your poker career doesn't mean they aren't relevant today. You reading a book on how to use the coffee table to stand up might seem like a joke to you now...but your ass would be all about reading that book when you were 9 months old. You'd be going off at daycare about it like mad bragging to all the other kids who can't pull themselves up yet. Appreciate it for what it's worth. I'm just debating for debating's sake.

if only I could have been able to read at 9 months old.

I could of been way ahead of those other crawling babies, WHO KNEW THAT THE COFFEE TABLE WAS THE KEY.

Yah i dont disagree with u at all, im just not excited about his new book and and really question the relevance. Really just sounds like someone trying to make a buck.
