A $10 million tournament with a $2 million first prize. One hundred $15,000 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure packages. Countless other promotions and giveaways. It can only mean one thing: PokerStars is getting ready to throw a massive party to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Who would've thought it? It's a fad, they said. This whole online poker thing? It will pass in a year or so. Who wants to play poker on a computer?

Indeed, in the early days, there were doubters, people who couldn't quite grasp the idea that poker could be played as well or better at a computer terminal than at the baize. They looked at online poker and its fans as curiosity-seekers or professional geeks. Today those doubters are just as likely to be among the legions of people with a PokerStars account. In autumn of 2001, PokerStars hit the button to establish its ethereal place on the internet. Today, it has more than 47 million registered users and stands as the biggest online poker site in the world. Now, in 2011, PokerStars is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary, and it will do so in the style for which it's developed a worldwide reputation.

There is so much to report about the 10th anniversary celebration, it simply cannot be done in one day. Over the course of the next two months, PokerStars has so many jaw-dropping promotions scheduled, you won't want to step away from your computer for more than a couple of hours. With that understood, you may just need a little taste of what's to come. You might want to sit down before you read the next two bits.

PokerStars $10 million Sunday Million

There is not a richer or better-known weekly tournament on the planet than the Sunday Million. Now, it's about to get insane. On December 18 at 14:30 ET, PokerStars is guaranteeing $10 million in the Sunday Million. That's right. The prize pool of the Sunday Million on December 18 will be worth ten million dollars. As if that wasn't startling enough, first prize in the event is guaranteed to be at least $2 million. You'd be hard-pressed to find many $10,000 entry events these days with a $2 million first prize. On December 18th, it will only cost you $215 to compete for the life-changing money. In fact, it doesn't even have to cost you that much. PokerStars will be running satellites for as little as $1 or a few Frequent Player Points. PokerStars will also be hosting an $11 mega satellite with 1,000 seats guaranteed for the big one.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/10th-anniversary/sunday-million/

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Giveaway

If you're like most PokerStars players, you're already itching for a little time in the Bahamas sun in January. Now, the PokerStars 10th Anniversary Giveaway will give you a chance to get there for free.

Over the next couple of months, the 10th Anniversary Giveaway will hand out 100 PCA prize packages worth more than $15,000 apiece. Every ten minutes, PokerStars will run free qualifiers. The top ten finishers in each of the qualifiers gets a seat to one of the weekly final tournaments. If you prefer to spend a little money, PokerStars will be hosting low-stakes and FPP tourneys every hour to get you into the finals, as well.

Beginning November 13 and running through December 11, PokerStars will host two of those weekly finals, each of which will award 10 PCA prize packages and $10,000 in cash. Everyone who finishes in the top 1,000 spots is guaranteed money.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/10th-anniversary/giveaway/

Indeed, it's all nearly unthinkable. In one very fast decade, PokerStars rose from a small place where 100 people played poker online to become a place where hundreds of thousands play at any given time. It holds the world record for number of simultaneous players (more than 300,000), biggest tournament field (149,196), and most hands of poker dealt (approaching 70 billion). It's the home of Team PokerStars Pro, the elite stable of players including some of the world's best like ElkY, Jason Mercier, and Daniel Negreanu. It changed the live poker world with online WSOP satellite winners like Chris Moneymaker. It created gigantic online tournament series like the World Championship of Online Poker and the Spring Championship of Online Poker. What's more, PokerStars has launched live tours like the EPT, LAPT, and APPT all over the globe. In short, in just ten years, PokerStars has become an institution.

It's all reason to throw the biggest party PokerStars has ever hosted. The events you see above are just a portion of the big things PokerStars has in store over the next couple of months. Stay tuned to the PokerStars Blog and the PokerStars 10th Anniversary homepage for full information on all the upcoming promotions.

Until then, put on on your party hats and get ready for the next two months. Guaranteed, you've never seen anything like what's coming.

I'm sorry about this one...but have to look you up. You can always leave your family somehow get next door even if no car, house on fire (not neighbors), in a straight jacket and knee caps broke (not quit restrained)

It is only fair 2 inform u guyz that I have in the past been welcomed to emigrate to Oceania w/ open arms
[Blame FlyingKiwi LOL], over issues other than online pokering.

One of those issues came up 2day, when my caseworker and me decided that it would be better to NOT
enroll in Medicare Part D prescription insurance, becuz it would be cheaper to mooch Plavix off Bristol-Myers
for FREE than to pay mebbe 150$/month co-payment for it, along with part D premiums [and penalties, becuz I
didn't opt into Part D when I won my disability appeal in 2008].

Socialized medicine soundz better all the time.
And y the f*** not? I have fewer teeth than most Brits LOLOL.

Well for the excting NUMBER TEN event, I was extremely under-whelmed.

Yawning is the internet-text way of stating my underwhelmedness.

Lol at all whinging grinders saying they're taking their rolls from Stars. "You just cost yourself another 150k VPP reg." Why do they think that is a bad thing for Stars?

The funny thing, all that WHINING turned into a "we're all gonna mass-table sit-out as a protest, the same way the pokerstars.fr players did to protest insane rake" and as a result there was post today from PokerstarsSteve* that Stars mgmt has decided to "forget we said anything" re. the change to the rake ... but still going forward with "contributed" for determining vpps. Which basically means the changes that would offset losses due to contributed (i.e. smaller rake of 4.5%, and much lower rake for HU tables, for example), well they're not gonna happen. wp, 2p2! ...juvenile nitty leeches...

one articulate post sums up how the proposed changes woulda been the final nail in the Limit Cash Games coffin:

ok, fine.
We're all aware that dealt rake rewards nits [me me me me me].
But by now, all of you must have seen Prodigy/Evergreen rewarding contributed rake.
JFC, I'm almost better off getting my $0.40/hour slot comp @ Mt. Airy playing live.

[Pocono Downs only gives food comp for poker. Fk that, Sheetz iz across the parking lot.
Comp for AC is generally worthless unless I move nearby. Absecon, NJ or Florida iz awful tempting,
and I am for sure within 3-5 years of being rep-payee-less.]

WOW, looks like those who actually participated eventually get ID'ed as a "protestor" and are soon set to "1 real money table maximum"
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-poker/mass-cashout-protest-pokerstars-2012-rake-changes-1146994/

... some are even apparently temp-banned?
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-poker/how-pokerstars-treats-sitout-protestors-1147029/

Stars has certainly reacted quickly and efficiently (?) so the sitout is obviously not gonna change anything (nobody even believes it's gonna return to DEALT, ever, duh) but tbh the basis of protest might not even be very valid; this post says it all...

Quote
Some people might say that the current situation is leading to the games being unbeatable. The dealt system has made games get tighter and tighter as time has gone on. Because players earned Vips by folding, they could break even or profit playing an 8/5 style. The difference between the winners and the losers (when they're all playing 8/5 or 10/8) is tiny. (Check the winrates of Pokerstars players in your HEM database, and compare them to sites like 888 or Party). If the trend continues, the only "winning" players will be those playing 5/4 or something ridiculous.

Switching to WC should eventually mean that players have to loosen up in order to earn VPPs. When the games are looser, pots are bigger (multiway) and reach the river more often. This means that the best players gain more streets of value against bad players.

The changes should mean that the games become "unbeatable" for rakeback grinders, but become "more beatable" for better players. After all, don't we all like playing against the loosest players, so we can exploit them with our better post-flop play? Stars currently doesn't have much post-flop play!

Tight games have worked well for Pokerstars till now, but aren't good for poker (or Pokerstars) in the long run. Poker needs more action to boost liquidity. WC rake/rakeback is the best way to increase action.

High rake does not make games unbeatable. Anyone that regularly plays on smaller sites (with higher rake) will tell you that the games are much softer (i.e. beatable) than Stars. What the best players lose in VIPs, they should be able to gain by playing more pots.
Word, brutha!

my apologies, D4D.
U c, Prodigy's full contributed rake/rakeback isn't even weighted.

However, there would be no need to lean anywheres near full contributed for draw and stud games,
the dynamics of draw/stud/razz never converging to 8/5 styles without bluff attacks by observant opponents.
