by giving the fishies an incentive to keep depositing:

Quote
Deposit and Win FREE Cash Every Day!

Make a deposit now and you’ll be rewarded with entry to four $1,000 freerolls per day for 31 days - that’s more than $100,000 in free tournament value! Plus, if you are a first-time depositor, use the bonus code ‘STARS600’ and you’re also eligible for the regular 100% welcome bonus up to $600.

Want to keep playing once your ticket has expired? Simply reload your account and you’ll be credited with a new one. You can use the reload code ‘100K’ once a month, which gives you another 31 days of play from the time of your deposit.

The $1,000 freeroll tourneys also use a special freebuy format. This means that entry is free, but you can re-buy as many times as you want for the first hour for just $0.30, boosting the prize pool each time. It’s one of the biggest daily freeroll series PokerStars has ever offered, giving you great value on your deposit.

pretty sweet deal, and a decent way to motivate fresh deposits without directly taking anything away from the winning grinders.

Great deal for micro-stakes tourney grinders. I wish I had the time to really take advantage of it.

The main thing is, it confirms what a lot of the 2+2'ers have been openly expressing as their hope -- that Stars is putting their focus on attracting (and retaining) regular depositing recreational players.

Great for Stars' bottom line, a "bonus" for the recs that isn't really a bonus so costs very little to Stars vs. the resulting increase in deposits (i.e. a very small pool freeroll, probably with 20000 entries max, that even allows for "re-entries" to help them "spend" their deposit?)

And when the recreational player realizes what a complete crapshoot the freeroll is, they take their BR to the cashgame tables where their payoff is far more instantaneous... now the grinders are happy.

EDIT.

Ok I needed to use the code when reloading. Still, odds of making any coin from this is low. Each freeroll probably has over 10k+ players.
