A nice article on beating live $1/2 NLHE games. This kind of article pops up from time to time on poker news sites. BF has lead to more online players playing live, and $1/2 NLHE is the most popular game in the world right now.

Good advice! Patience is crucial! Keeping at least $200 in chips on the table at all times helps making decisions easier.

It's difficult to "crush" 1/2 NL on the cruise ship I was on this past week, especially when they were raking 10% with a maximum of $25.  Yes folks, they raked up to $25/hand.  I still managed to beat the game, but the amount of rake collected made me sick to my stomach.

Oh, they also had a minimum rake of $1, with no option of chopping the blinds.  It makes it kind of fun when it folds around to me on the BB, and the dealer takes a dollar.  He didn't understand why I kept asking him why he was taking $1 when I didn't collect anything other than my $2 big blind.

Fun times!

No.  This was on NCL with a live dealer, and I haven't cruised on NCL within the last 10 years.  I remember Princess having a rake of about $8/hand and Carnival last year had a PokerPro machine that capped the rake at $7/hand.  They were all 10%.

The funny thing is NCL was too stupid to realize that they could generate so much more income by having an automatic shuffler in the center of the table.  The dealers were incredibly slow, which prompted me to not play at all a couple days in the middle.  They would also "wash" the cards on every hand before taking an eternity to shuffle.

They also had 2 MTTs with a $60 buy-in and unlimited rebuys for the 1st hour, and an add-on option.  The blinds began at 100/200 with a 2000 chip starting stack.  They raked 30% of all money collected before paying out Top 3.  With that blind structure and the 30% rake, I chose not to play.

Not all.  I played on one that was "cheap" - 10%, max of $7.  Oh, and $35 to get on the boat to begin with.  Similarly, the bad players somewhat compensated for the added expenses.  Too bad the boat went out of business - I guess they weren't raking enough.

I was just re-reading this article on my phone this week ( http://www.pokerlistings.com/strategy/ultimate-guide-to-crushing-live-12 ) , and only now decided to read the COMMENTS as well -- happily surprised that there waz plenty of extra learningz to be earned that way.

Also, a Google search for similar
http://www.google.com/search?q=crushing+live+1%2F2

finds you the "redux" followup apparently
http://www.pokerlistings.com/strategy/how-to-crush-12-nolimit-redux-money-mistakes
(and hundreds more brief-but-valuable NLHE cash articles here)

also this PocketFives thread links to a handful of other "related" threads about live poker (esp. vs. online)
http://www.pocketfives.com/f7/i-crush-live-poker-but-online-poker-i-get-crushed-where-turn-102763/

but best of all is re-discovering THIS: (for when you are bored of playing so nitty, and now want to "mix it up" for much-faster stack building)

From aba20's (aka sbrugby aka Brian Townsend) 'My Story' thread: "...I was crushing these live no limit games as they are very very soft. I would consistently build ten buy in stacks."

Live 2/5 NL games are zany, spewy donkathons that the standard 2p2/CR/Stox/deucescracked 14/12/4 method will beat.

But not for 10BI consistently. I think I know what does...

from 1 of the comments:

something you mentioned briefly is how position doesn't matter -- you should play KQ from any position.
One of the cornerstones to ownage @ Mt. Airy.
As regards to the 10-buyin win potential, there typically isn't that much floating around @ Pocono Downs or Mt. Airy.
I hope to be proven wrong on this someday. 3-5 buyin wins consistently, I be a happy boy

I also hope that one of my 1.25 Dueces Wild spins hits a Royal w/ no wild cards,
netting me 4000 quarters [1k$].
Oh,also  notice that 4000 quarters <1200$, meaning that slot attendants are not sposed to fk w/ me and try to
give me a hand payout @ <1200$... like i need to pay taxes on this chit, JFC. [and some of u wonder about why OWS hahahahaha]

Sands/Bethlehem has a way more regular/spewy 2/5 game, but I can only get a bus there on Thursdays.
Someday ima do Parx, figured out the travel, need to find a cheap hotel in Philly.
Fk AC, those guyz know all this chit.
