August Meeting of sixandfourum.com Held September 6th, 2011 in Skype Public Chat.

In attendance:
Fletch_smf (Chair)
sixandfour
JBaker
ribbyruno
fuzzy420 (Eric Grant)

The entire meeting can be found in the chat. The following has been edited for readability.

Fletch_smf - Someone tell me what the time is over there.
Jordan Bake - 10:43pm EST
Fletch_smf - ^^ Meeting started then. So we have no previous meetings to read the minutes of, but we'll do that next time. So first up,

finances.

Fletch_smf - We have $2.83 in our Prodigy account. Nothing in RaketheRake or Pokerstars.
sixandfour - but... we should be getting a chunk in Prodigy for the past month
Fletch_smf - Yes sir, but current bottom line is probably a good place to start. What's the Sports Betting situation?
Sixandfour - ATM, we have $20.92 in real money, and $30.88 in bonus funds yet to be converted
Jordan Baker - very nice
Fletch_smf - And how can we get access to that $20.92?
Eric Grant - lookin good
Sixandfour - We have to make $200 to cash out, and unless we get a paid membership to a service they offer (which we could do just to cash out and then cancel) we'd only recieve $100.
Fletch_smf - Okay, so basically just building it there for the time being. That's cool.
Jordan Baker - Services like directTV? or services on their site?
Sixandfour - so FSB is essentially a rainy day windfall kind of deal.  When it hits, we'll get a nice chunk, but then we wait.  Plus, there's not the exponential growth potential there as in poker sites.  There's only so many things to bet on.
Sixandfour - No, they have a paid support service that offers things like sports info and analyses.  Basically you'd be paying for "expert advice" that we don't need for our purposes
Jordan Baker - gotcha
Fletch_smf - Will we get alot more cleared now Football season is upon us?
Sixandfour - Yeah, was getting there.  The NFL season will bring a big uptake on the conversion bets. but, the commission we earn only goes up so much, so in the end, we still are only making so much ground at a time.  We can convert this bonus cash at any time if we're aggressive, but until it gets there to convert, we can't make any more.
Fletch_smf - So after it's all converted, we're just betting to make money and increase our funds?
Sixandfour - The plan at this time is not to bet any real money, only the bonus funds.  The FSB is nice, but right now, Prodigy is more worth being excited about
Fletch_smf - Okay, Prodigy. We are expecting $6.66 in earnings from August.
Jordan Baker - very nice
Fletch_smf - The graph of rake is at http://www.sixandfourum.com/images/reports/2011-August-Prodigy.png

Fletch_smf - If no bonuses are being cleared, we get 24% of the total rake taken from our players.
Sixandfour - and that would be a safe bet, I'd think, unless you're clearing one Fletch_smf
Fletch_smf - No, I am not. Figured the bonus is much more beneficial to the fourum. Total rake for August was $27.77 http://www.sixandfourum.com/images/reports/2011-August-Statement.png

Fletch_smf - Starting these regular tournies and getting some regular cash games going is a good thing financially, and for the health of the fourum as a whole. Who would have thunk it?
Jordan Baker - never in a million years
Sixandfour - Apparently, you would've, sir
Fletch_smf - I'm doing OK at the 10nl, so will get grinding there, which is about half the rake we generate in a month. The other half is the tournies and the nano limit games that we all jump in on.
Jordan Baker - im hoping to move up stakes soon now that im in school and have time to play...but im no fletch
Fletch_smf - No one is, sir.
Jordan Baker - wrong. you are.
Fletch_smf - Only on my best days.
Eric Grant - once the BR is lookin better I am plannin on jumpin up in stakes too. and plannin on grindin in between calls alot more
Ribbybruno - i am starting to grind as well now
Fletch_smf - Fuzzy, there are some great reload and first deposit bonuses, so make sure you take advantage of them when depositing. They're paid out incrementally, so even if you don't work it all off, you'll get some of it.
Eric Grant - oh yeah I already got the sixandforum code in for the first deposit bonus. Just gotta put $$ in
Fletch_smf - Good job Ribby.
Sixandfour - "Fletch_smf: No one is, sir." <<< Are you gonna force me to dig up old posts about "making the fourum moniez""?  you deserve a fair bit of credit here, sir
Fletch_smf - ty sir. My plan was to get as many people some funds on their so they could get into some games. They are so soft that building on the rolls shouldn't be too hard. We tried this before, but really it was never going to happen until Stars and Tilt went away for the U.S. players. Then Tilt went away for everyone, which didn't hurt either.
Jordan Baker - "Fletch_smf: ut really it was never going to happen until Stars and Tilt went away for the U.S. players." <<< that was key
Sixandfour - that is true, for the fourum's sake, BF was the best thing that could have happened.  FOr us individually, is a diff. story.
Fletch_smf - When things eventually get regulated, and some U.S. goverment approved sites start opening up, we need to jump on that sign up bandwagon early. That will be the financial future of the fourum.
Eric Grant - thats IF regulated sites offer affiliate programs
Fletch_smf - ^^ Of course.
Sixandfour - good point.  Who knows what the rules will be when that comes about
Fletch_smf - Anyway, I think that's August finances. Any other comments/questions?
Jordan Baker - do we wanna talk about what we plan to eventually do with this money when it adds up? or should we save that for a later date (like when we have more $)
Fletch_smf - ^^ Fair question
Sixandfour - I think for anytime in the near future, freerolling about covers it.  we need a fair bit of volume before anything else would be worth consideration
Fletch_smf - Now that I'm hosting the fourum as one of my add on domains, it literally costs us zero dollars to maintain it. Actually, we have to pay for the domain name, so six has some outlay there.
Sixandfour - my outlay isn't anything to concern ourselves with
Eric Grant - that should come out of the funds the site produces IMO
Fletch_smf - ^^ this.
Jordan Baker - agreed
Fletch_smf - Even just in the long term. We'll keep track of it to fix up later. It's not even $10 a year, is it?
Jordan Baker - so its agreed that once we eventually get enough money, we will use all of it (minus website fees) to host freerolls in hopes of bringing new people
Sixandfour - well, When we get rich, we'll worry about padding us up with some fat cheddar.  FOr now, the fourum needs it more than I do Jordan Baker - yeah, lets not pull an AJ....yet...
Ribbybruno - lol
Fletch_smf - JB, yes. Or value added tournies, so $1.10 buy in with $20 added to the pool or something.
Jordan Baker - right. sounds good
Sixandfour - that is also a plan.
Eric Grant - ^^sounds good
Fletch_smf - The trick is, we host our tournies on Prodigy, and only Prodigy players can enter, not the other Everleaf skins. I don't know how big that pool is, because all Everleaf players are counted in the tallies you see.
Sixandfour - Cultivating the prodigy games is the goal now.  Even the freerolls will likely get people to sign up, and if they get to paying rake, good for us.
Fletch_smf - What six, said. The goal is to get new sign ups to Prodigy through us.
Jordan Baker - ^that
Fletch_smf - Which is why I post a link to it in every post I can, lol.
Jordan Baker - spammer
Sixandfour - spambot
Eric Grant - forum shill
Fletch_smf - There's still a few regs at the fourum that don't have accounts, and people like Cubbies are thinking about it. So we just keep plugging away there. We had 10 sign ups in June. We now have 15.
Jordan Baker - gg
Ribbybruno - that's good
Fletch_smf - And near the end of August we were having 6 of those players logging in to Prodigy every day. Playing our tournies, and the cash games, and checking out the freerolls. So the plan is to keep building/encouraging that.
Sixandfour - On a sid note, I'm gonna post in the Prodigy competition thread...
Fletch_smf - If we've finished with the finances, this is seguing nicely into the fourum games part of the meeting ...
Sixandfour - since no one but JB and Fletch are on the board yet, I plan on offering $5 to the first non-admin to cash a freeroll.
Fletch_smf - Cool sir.
Sixandfour - a little hu for you guys here listening in
Fletch_smf - It will be easy enough for them to do.
Jordan Baker - vn
Eric Grant - I guess I should start playin a few freerolls then
Jordan Baker - ^
Fletch_smf - One in 45 minutes sir
Jordan Baker - there is one in 44 minutes
Fletch_smf - lol
Jordan Baker - signups stop in 39 mins, go
Eric Grant - in
Sixandfour - atta boy
Fletch_smf - So,

Fourum Games

Fletch_smf - We started Elektra at the end of July. Because, again, poker players like to play poker. Regular game seemed a good idea. And play chips was all we really had at that point. It has built up nicely with a handful of people at our first game, up to 8 and 11 at the last two tournies in August. Including some of the FTF regs like Spike. This has turned into a good double with the Banarama offering a non NLHE game an hour before. It also gave us a reason to boost the post count in the fourum, giving people something to read about, and hopefully get involved in by coming to play. We added the NLHE Freezeout at Prodigy, because RM is always better, even if it is only $1. And the O8 game was added on the 31st because people seem to like the mid week games. The other reason to schedule games on Prodigy was to hopefully get some outsider interest. Again, only Prodigy players can see them, so I'm not sure how mucn interest there will be. There's not a lot of O8 tournies, so I think that will be the one that is more likely to get interest ... We'll see. Biggest tournout for either Prodigy game has been 6. which isn't bad.
Jordan Baker - now that i have my laptop back im able to promote using FB/newsletter im hoping if i promote our prodigy games we can see some new people join us at them. ive especially been pushing the 40% rakeback this previous week
Sixandfour - we had a lot of interest particularly from kids at Railbirds for the old O8 series.  have talked to Ribby about that, maybe we can bring some of them in
Fletch_smf - Even if six is one of them, that's 50 cents rake generated, and about 14 cents income for the fourum at each tourny. 8 Prodigy tournies a month is  $1.12 for the fourum. Cool, six and ribby.
Ribbybruno - Railbirds is not what it used to be
Sixandfour - pretty much none of the old forums are what they used to be. we got a lot of smaller ones folding up
Ribbybruno - Railbirds does have some Home Games I am checking on--BOTC(Battle of the Clans)--which any Mucking Monkey could play if accepted
Fletch_smf - For the next month we will continue with the 3 regular games we currently have + Bananarama and see if we can beat the record turn out of 11 we have had at this point.
Jordan Baker - lets aim for this sunday
Fletch_smf - All for that. Beyond the regular tournies we are in the middle of a Fourum Series of HU games. This stalled somewhat after BPD went AWOL. After several attempts to try and get hold of her we are about to forfeit all her games and move on.
Sixandfour - I would say that's in order.  I'd give her until critter and JB finish their game, then forfeit her if we don't hear by then
Jordan Baker - what if im unable to finish my game with critter? last 2 times ive tried to contact him he doesnt respond
Fletch_smf - He's points leader, so that will make things awkward.
Fletch_smf - Critt and JB still have to play, and this will decide how the final series plays out. There's only 1 point between Critt, JB and Ribby, so it might end up being a 3 way playoff for the championship.
Ribbybruno - JB and I owe 1 too
Jordan Baker - you and i already played ribby....i think
Fletch_smf - I don't think so Ribby.
Ribbybruno - nope not twice
Sixandfour - well,he was on today, so he's checking in.  next time he's in, he will get that PM about it.
Fletch_smf - Check out the thread, Ribby. I'm sure you have.
Ribbybruno - i have checked--was saving that match after playing boobs
Jordan Baker - yeah we played that game. i won
Ribbybruno - 1st timer
Fletch_smf - We'll sort this out later. If the top 3 players end on equal points, we will have to adjust the play offs to decide 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Will post some ideas in the thread if that becomes an eventuality.
Jordan Baker - Ok
Fletch_smf - We will finish this series in September, what ever happens.
Ribbybruno - sounds good
Fletch_smf - We also tried to start an interforum challenge with Beat the Donk. Seemed a good way of trying to get members, and bring life to two forums at the same time. But they play mainly on Carbon, and didn't show much interest in joing our PokerStars home group. And I can't play on Carbon. So things sort of just stalled there.
Ribbybruno - they can all play for $$ on stars
Fletch_smf - Yeah, the time difference between U.K., U.S. and Oz would have made things interesting too. So there you have it. Any other questions/comments on our regular games/fourum series?
Jordan Baker - nope. everything looks good so far in them. excited to see what they bring us for the future.
Fletch_smf - Me too

Fourum Stats.

Fletch_smf - We averaged 706 page loads a day with 221 visitors per day for the month of August. Which is a reasonable amount of traffic. But March was 695 page loads and 96 visitors per day. So doubled the visitors but not the page loads since Black Friday. I don't know how much more members/posting there has been, because we weren't tracking that, but we had 991 members, 18 591 posts in 2110 topics at the start of September. We'll keep track of it from now.
Sixandfour - That's a reflection as you noted before that our content isn't getting people to put much time in here
Fletch_smf - We served 32 729 banners in the fourum, 40% being the Prodigy banner, 25% Free Sports Bet, 20% Rake the Rake and 7.5% for Party Poker and WPT. six, very possibly.
Jordan Baker - "sixandfour: That's a reflection as you noted before that our content isn't getting people to put much time in here" <<< good point
Fletch_smf - A few FTF members have swung by and are posting content, mainly to do with Full Tilt's woes. Which is understandable.
Sixandfour - The thing is, we've all tried to "boost" content, and it does little good.  I'm afraid this is something that will just take time.  we can keep plugging away, grabbing a ne reg here and there, and eventually we can have enough to offer.
Fletch_smf - Yes.
Jordan Baker - fair enough
Sixandfour - Part of the prob also p(particularly with FTFers) is we can't compete with that kind of volume right now.
Fletch_smf - The most we can do is reply to the posters, giving them the satisfaction of knowing that we're paying attention to them, and hopefully encouraging them to post more.
Sixandfour - but the good thing is, unless they want to dick around at 2+2, this is about as good as it gets atm
Fletch_smf - The quality of posts will increase with time. Yes, six.
Sixandfour - so long story short, give it time and it will come
Jordan Baker - if you build it....they will come.
Fletch_smf - And that's all that I have. JB you have anything on

FaceBook/Newsletters and the like?

Jordan Baker - not really. dont have any way (to my knowledge) to check if people read my FB statuses or not. doesnt help that a large majority of our friends are foreign, but im still pushing the 40% prodigy rakeback, as well as posting our regular games. same goes with people reading the newsletters. im afraid they're going to peoples spam folder and they dont see them for a while. but if anyone has any suggestions for improving the newsletter, ideas are welcoem
Fletch_smf - How many likers do we have? Or friends or what ever it's called?
Jordan Baker - we have 1057 friends, and growing each week
Fletch_smf - And the Newsletter just goes to all fourum members?
Jordan Baker - correct
Sixandfour - and unfortunately, more often than not to the junk folder
Jordan Baker - made a couple FB posts in the past encouraging people to sign up for the newsletter, but i didnt see any big movement. yes, thats the problem
Fletch_smf - How can they sign up for the Newsletter?
Jordan Baker - by becoming members
Fletch_smf - right.
Jordan Baker - a good amount of our FB friends arent members
Fletch_smf - Of course not. I do like the new format listing the games. Easier to read and to the point.
Jordan Baker - yes, saves space
Fletch_smf - And with regards to the Newsletter, as I mentioned, adding html links to the posts would be cool. If possible.
Jordan Baker - will do. i can just post them at the bottom
Fletch_smf - And do they work as links, do you know?
Jordan Baker - dont think it would be good if i posted one for each game, but i will post a link to the forum games and freerolls section of the forum. im not quite sure, but i will test it out before the next letter. ill send out a test letter to the admins only.
Fletch_smf - Cool
Sixandfour - Just a thought to mull again:  once upon a time Woodsmith suggested buying ads on FB.  Apparently it's about a penney per click.  You guys think that'd be worth a look?
Jordan Baker - that could get expensive
Fletch_smf - Well now that we can expect some regular sort of income, that might be something to look at. In a small volume.
Sixandfour - I think there's a way you can cap your monthly expenditure, so that wouldn't be a biggish
Jordan Baker - i know with googles ad program you can prevent your ad from being clicked too much (to save money obv) so if FB has something like that, it would be good. we obviously wouldnt want 100,000 people clicking and not doing anything
Fletch_smf - Obviously. Can you look into that JB?
Jordan Baker - will do
Fletch_smf - One more thing on the Newsletter, text only things don't get read that much. I don't know if we can add images to ours, but if not, it might be worth investigating a free one that allowed you to pretty it up a bit.
Jordan Baker - yeah i noticed that when reading our newsletter compared to AMC newsletter (movie theater) so ive been looking into getting something that i could do color backgrounds, borders, etc. ive been hearing a lot about wordpress. so i was gonna look into that eventually
Sixandfour - can you drop banners at all on our newsletters?
Jordan Baker - havent tried that one yet...i can try that with the html test i do this week
Sixandfour - because having the prodigy banner in there alone warrants a look at upgrading.  Particulaly if new software gets us around getting stuffed in a junk folder
Jordan Baker - ill definitely take a look into it. now on the FB advertising. would we want to promote our FB page? or just send them straight to the site. you can do both
Sixandfour - Our main goal is to boost the fourum, so that's a no brainer to me. as you said, our friends are not often members
Jordan Baker - true
Fletch_smf - Just sent you guys a Newsletter from one I create in a Mailing List program. It costs, but you can add pix and links, and track how many people open it, forward it, and what links they click on. Sorry, I sent it to JB and six. Yeah, fourum would be the main one.
Jordan Baker - ok last point on this FB advertising. if we want to do an ad, we are going to need a picture. something small and simple that grabs attention and says "im a badass poker forum, come visit me" id prefer if we got someone who knows photoshop to create something, instead of our normal fancy lettering
Fletch_smf - If we can target specific things, then the game board would be the place to go, or the September competition thread if we were specifically promoting it to try and get people to join Prodigy through us.
Jordan Baker - maybe you could give it a shot six
Fletch_smf - Six gets my vote.
Sixandfour - I'm certainly up for graphics work,  what kind of dimensions do I have?
Jordan Baker - maybe stacks of cash in the background and in bold letters we type "FORUM GAMES - FREEROLLS - (link)" let me see. it doesnt give any dimensions for the image. but if you give me multiples with diff dimensions, i can preview them to see which looks best
Fletch_smf - So, pretty Newsletter and Facebook ads. Things to look into for September.

Any other business for this meeting? Oh, spammers.

Sixandfour - yeah
Jordan Baker - Has adding those things helped at all six?
Sixandfour - absolutely.  I only have about 5 or 6 new ones a day now, and about half get banned for multiaccounting or ridic sig strings.  Have instituted a policy of deleting copy pasters who put in strings over 300 charactes that get cut off.
Fletch_smf - Cool
Jordan Baker - vn
Sixandfour - are we good on pretty much banning e2 who posts a link with no permission?
Jordan Baker - yes
Fletch_smf - A business link in their sig you mean or in a post? As opposed to something poker related or even human interst.
Jordan Baker - and i think that should include those whos sigs, website info and motto all say "PANDORA BEADS CHEAP"
Sixandfour - yes in the sig.  most of these idiots never bother posting
Fletch_smf - Yeah, I think so.
Sixandfour - then from now on, that's just what I'll do.
Jordan Baker - coolio
Fletch_smf - Any other business?
Jordan Baker - not that i can think of
Sixandfour - nope
Fletch_smf - What's the time there?
Jordan Baker - 12:07am
Fletch_smf - Meeting adjourned.
Ribbybruno - good meeting
Fletch_smf - Yes ribby. Thanks for stopping by.

Nice to see things moving forward.

After Black Friday stunned the online poker community. I wasn't sure how things were going to go. Seems the true spirit of poker still holds strong and people are gonna find a way to play no matter what.

Sixandfourum has been a great place to be during these transitions.

Prodigy down the road could pay big dividends.

Well, those of us who were playing before ESPN made it mainstream would tell you that poker would still be around regardless of what the goverrnment does to interfere.  It's been around a long time, and does just fine with or without the commercialization and promotion on a smaller scale.  Granted, a lot of our opportunities have been taken from us, but as a longtime gambler, I can tell you that you never get too used to any particular routine.  Games have always come and go in the live world, and the schedule you played on last week could change or completely evaporate with no notice.  Online poker had provided that long-term stability for many, but now we see even that can be uprooted.  All you can do is be flexible and roll with the tides to the next opportunity.

The single best thing we have going for us here at this site is that we're all here for love of the game.  We're not at all concerned with how much money rolls in; anything we make is going to go right back to the fourum.  Sure, it'll be nice when we do, as we can set up more games for the members, and hopefully eventually implement the profit sharing we set up for that time, but if we had never made a cent here, I still consider this a huge success.  It has provided a home for a lot of great poker forumers, and kept members from several failing communities together.  For me, it brought back a lot of the fun that had disappeared from the old days of my foruming life.  Success here is measured one reg at a time, and every old acquaintance or new member who gets involved makes this site just a bit better.

And we have beaten last month's record for Prodigy rake collected, and we've still got half the month to go. We have 9 rake paying players at Prodigy currently playing this month (and we'd have 2 more if Chato and Paint would take me up on an offer to transfer funds.) Maybe we'll get to the $10 earned, and be able to pay for another competition in October. If anyone has ideas of what we might do, feel free to post here.

Speaking of competition, 4 people have currently earned points. What is up with the rest of you slackers? Someone else scores, and we're paying top two. JB and I aren't playing again till the 21st, so you've got a week up your sleeve to take the lead. Go for it!

I do have a question, I wanted to put the prodigy banner in my sig.  When I copied it from the thread you made for us to get it from, Fletch, it was too many characters.

How are you all able to put the banner in your sigs but I can't?  Are the admins allowed to put in more characters than 300?

Fletch is a warlock and created a way to put the banner in there without actually putting the img code in. Instead of putting the img code he quoted, just put 'Prodigy ... not so keen on the U.S. players' (without the ' obv.) and it will make your signature the same as ours.

I meant you were funny because you wrote the code expecting it to be there, just because you put it in single quotes.

Go for it!

huh??  how can i transfer funds??  esp. when i dont have none anyways...     lol
