Some Ideas From the "Refugees"
«

April 19, 2011, 02:42:21 AM »
As those of you who are observant may have noticed, we've had a teensy bit of increased traffic since Black Friday displaced the entire Full Tilt Forum and had others looking for info. As a result, I've gotten a handful of good suggestions from some of the new membership. I'd like to hear what you guys think, and perhaps some of these things that you guys like we can vote on implementing into the forum. For now I'll leave those whose suggestions I post anonymous, but of course they can take credit for them if that is their desire.
1. More than one person suggested we have too many boards, and in fact it has been addressed before that perhaps we could combine some or all of the Life boards. What do you guys think, and specifically what ideas do you have for combining/eliminating these boards?
2. While we have a "view posts" tab where you can see your last posts in descending order on your profile, a lot of people don't know about it, being on our profile page toward the bottom. Would you guys like to see that in a more prominent location; perhaps in the "more" tab on the index with the "view unread posts" and "show new replies to your posts" buttons?
3. Would you guys like a poker news ticker on the front page, perhaps above the FB and Twitter widgets on the side?
4. How about a sports ticker, either on the front page or perhaps at least in the sports board? And if Fletchy feels like working his magic, perhaps we could have it as a feature we could turn on and off as we liked.
5. Some more tools would be nice in the poker tools section, particularly widgets we could use right on the page or link to in a sub-page of the fourum. Any suggestions on what you'd like? If you know of particular aps, please post them here as well.
I'm sure there will be more coming, but for now, please let us know your thoughts on these ideas. And thanks again to those of you who took the time to give me your ideas thus far.

It's always the way, isn't it. Friends drop in unexpectedly and you look around the place thinking "If I knew you were coming I'd have cleaned up a bit." Thanks for the input everyone. And thanks for thinking of asking, Six.
EDIT: to follow JB's example to make an easy comparison.
1.
The Fourum
 Introduce Yourself
 Links, Info, News & Feedback
 The Igloo
 Sports
 Entertainment
 Politics, Science & Business
 The Arcade
 AMASS (and other games get their own board as they pop up)
Poker U.
 Hold 'Em Ring
 Hold 'em Tourny
 Other Poker Games
 Forum Video and Education
 Books, Articles and Poker Tools
Poker & Gambling
 Poker News
 Fourum Games and Freerolls
 Hot Air & Rail Requests
 BAPs and Staking
 Sports Betting and Other Gambling
2. Do people use that as a way of keeping track of topics they're posting in? I don't think I've ever gone back to look at my last posts.
3. This could be cool. PokerNews.com have one?
4. Being a foreigner, this doesn't interest me much, but it would easy enough to add to the home page. Not sure about placing it on a specific board like Sport, though that does sound like a more useful placing for it. I'm sure I could get it working eventually.
5. Always welcome this sort of thing.
Regarding the usage of the fourum, combining some of those instructional threads into 1 FAQ type thread is obviously something to be looked at.
It's good to have some first time users that feel comfortable enough to ask questions, give suggestions. Thanks in advance, everybody.

OK. Let's put in 2 cents.
1. Proof is in the posts. Combine whatever topics necessary. Add/Subtract topics to increase flow throughout the fourum.
2. Sounds good! Some people need directions on how to do things.
3. Poker news ticker would be cool. People like the FB and Twitter widgets.
4. You know me. Sports would be fantastic but I am a diehard. Maybe a vote on this issue.
5. Don't have special knowledge in this area but more the merrier on poker tools imo.

1. Rather than talk about how I would do it, I'll just post two pictures of ways we could do it. It cuts our current 31 boards (didn't bother to touch Boneyard) down to 18, I believe. And yes, I know I have chicken-scratch hand writing.
For those of you who have trouble reading my terrible hand-writing, here is what I envisioned.
The Fourum Headquarters
 Introduce Yourself
 Sixandfourum Info Center
Poker and Gambling
 Poker News
 Cash Play (both online and live) **
 Tourney Play (both online and live) **(this and cash play could be combined to one board named something else, with each having their own child-boards)**
 Fourum Games and Freerolls
 Mucking Monkeys
 Poker Education (possible child board containing videos, articles, books, etc.)
 BAP & Staking
 Hot Air & Ventilation/Rail Requests
The Lounge
 The Igloo
 Fourum Fun (MASS, AMASS, TTYL, etc.)
 Entertainment (possible child-boards containing Movies, Music, TV, Lit. (with patches corner, obv.), Food/Bev. and Gaming)
 Intellectual Talk
 Arcade
http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l330/jbake010/scan0001.jpg
http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l330/jbake010/scan0003.jpg
2. At 2+2 they have a feature to "Subscribe" to certain threads that you want to stay updated on, and it offers an e-mail update upon new post. We could do something like that if people want to follow certain threads.
3. Saw the new Poker News widget, looks good.
4. Might take up too much room if we have all these tickers, but if we can fit it, then go for it. Maybe we could do what Fletch said and make it apart of the Sports category.
5. Poker Odds Calculator would be nice, or a link to one.

For the record, reading that scrawling was almost painful.
Now when this was first mentioned, I kinda figured we'd just shorten up the Life section, but hearing JB and Fletch's suggestions, it seems we could be well served for a lot more shrinking down. I'd like to hear some yeas or nays on whether we should go ahead and implement a reorganization similar to what Fletch and JB have mentioned. If it seems like we have consensus, we'll start a side thread to discuss the particulars and vote on the final structure. So please, everyone, put in your 2 cents so we know whether to put the time in on this.

1. I would like to hear from some of the refugees on this.
The Forum
 "Introduce yourself" "How To"
 "Info center" "Links and Affiliates"
 "News and Notes"
 "Suggestions and Feedback"
Poker U/ Poker Gambling

 "Other poker games" "Live Poker"
 "forum vid, education, Books and reviews, and Articles"
 "Poker News"
 "Forum games and free rolls"
 "TTYL" "AMASS"
 "Rail requests"
 "BAPs"
 "Sports Betting"
 "Hot Air and ventilation"
(Just get rid of "other gambling")
Player's Lounge
 "The Igloo"
 "The Arcade" "Gaming"
 "Sports"
 "Entertainment"
 "Politics"
 "Sciences"
 "Business, Investing and Finance"
 "Life in General"
 "Hot chicks dancing on poles"
2. Meh, whatever.
3. Meh, whatever. Since I can't play poker ATM, I really don't give a shoot.
4. Meh. Sports, people like em I suppose. whatever.
5. Sure. Odds calculator and hand converter. Though, since I am in the US I won't be needing that for a while. I am sure as hell not going to post stupid play chip hands for "analysis". Talk about pointless, no offense meant, Gnome.

Not so LMAO at the fact no one seems to have anything to say. Your fourum's size could be cut in half, and that's not worth a yea or nay? Democracy only works if someone shows up to vote, kids.

My thoughts on JB's thoughts.
Quote from: JBaker on April 19, 2011, 06:09:56 PM
For those of you who have trouble reading my terrible hand-writing, here is what I envisioned.
The Fourum Info Center
 Introduce Yourself
 Sixandfourum News
 Sixandfourum FAQ & Feedback
- News, FAQ & Feedback should be combined. There is not enough traffic to justify two boards here. The FAQ's should be stickied, obv.
 Links & Affiliates
- Has 2 Topics in it. Should just be a sticky at the top of the News/FAQ board.
Poker and Gambling
 Poker News
 Cash Play (both online and live) **
 Tourney Play (both online and live) **(this and cash play could be combined to one board named something else, with each having their own child-boards)**
- Separate boards is better.
 Poker Education (possible child board containing videos, articles, books, etc.)
 BAP & Staking
 Hot Air/Ventilation **
 Rail Requests **(could combine this and Hot Air/Ventilation)**
- Yeah, these should probably be combined for the moment.
Also, you don't have Fourum Games and Freerolls, which is(was) one of the biggest sections of the Fourum.
The Lounge
 The Igloo
 Fourum Fun (MASS, AMASS, TTYL, etc.)
 Entertainment (possible child-boards containing Movies, Music, TV, Lit. (with patches corner, obv.), Food/Bev. and Gaming)
- No need for child boards, saving Patches Corner.
 Politics
- needs to be combined with Business and Science, imo. Or else just put them all in the Igloo.
 Sports
 Arcade
 Other (whatever else you want)
- Everything else just goes in The Igloo.
So the major differences between my suggestion and JB/Patches, is that my focus is on the Poker, whilst they are giving equal wait to poker and everything else. Their idea is probably the way to go considering the state of things atm.
What does everyone else think?

Ah, can't believe I forgot the fourum games and freerolls, I edited my post and put that under "Poker and Gambling" with a child-board for the Mucking Monkeys.
Going to quote Fletch and patches' posts now so I can give opinions.
Edit: I like what Fletch did to my post. Comments about his comments down below.
The News, FAQ, and Feedback could all be combined into one thing called 'Info Center' or something like that, with the deletion of links and affiliates and just having those as stickies in 'Info Center'.
Agreed, it would be best to combine politics and business/science into one section under 'The Lounge'.
If we removed the child board's of entertainment, we would just have people post about those things in entertainment, correct? Not put them somewhere else? If so, I'm for that.

The Fourum (
I'm not too sure about having the Igloo, the Arcade, and AMASS all in the same category as introduce yourself and all that. I think those should be seperated into their own board as a sort of lounge.
)
 Introduce Yourself
 Links, Info, News & Feedback (
I like that you combined the three of these into one section, to save space.
)
 The Igloo (
Nice child-boards, good decision
)
 Sports
 Entertainment
 Politics, Science & Business
 The Arcade
 AMASS (and other games get their own board as they pop up)
Poker U. (
I don't really see a reason to have both a 'Poker U' and a 'Poker and Gambling' section. I assume your Poker U section is for for education based on poker (books, articles, videos, etc.) which I think could just all be put into one board under Poker and Gambling
)
 Hold 'Em Ring
 Hold 'em Tourny
 Other Poker Games
 Forum Video and Education
 Books, Articles and Poker Tools
Poker & Gambling
 Poker News
 Fourum Games and Freerolls
 Hot Air & Rail Requests (
Like you mentioned in critiquing mine, I do believe combining these two would be a good idea and save space.
 BAPs and Staking

The Forum

I think the Introduce Yourself category should have it's own section, and that 'How To' should be combined with Info Center and Links/Affiliates.
)
 "Info center" "Links and Affiliates"
 "News and Notes" (
News and Notes could fall under Info Center to save space.
)
 "Suggestions and Feedback"
Poker U/ Poker Gambling
 "Holdem ring"
 "Holdem tourney"
 "Other poker games" "Live Poker"
 "forum vid, education, Books and reviews, and Articles"
 "Poker News"
 "Forum games and free rolls" (
I'm curious as to why TTYL and AMASS would have child boards here? I could understand a Mucking Monkeys child board, but games like TTYL and AMASS have nothing to do with poker or gambling. Just forum fun, which I believe would categorize them somewhere near the lounge.
)
 "TTYL" "AMASS"
 "Rail requests" (
Rail requests and Hot Air/Ventilation could be combined into one.
)
 "BAPs"
 "Sports Betting"

(Just get rid of "other gambling")
Player's Lounge
 "The Igloo"
 "The Arcade" "Gaming"
 "Sports"
 "Entertainment" (
Could possibly be a child board of the igloo, or a board by itself with sports and gaming as it's own child boards
.)
 "Politics" (
Like Fletch mentioned, politics, sciences, and business/investing/finance could all be combined into one.
)
 "Sciences"
 "Business, Investing and Finance"
 "Life in General" (
Don't see a point for life in general if we have the igloo, they're both the same thing imo, just general things.
)

Now this is by no means the extent of our efforts, but I did implement a few preliminary changes. Given that it was unanimous amongst the three plans given to combine Hot Air & Ventilation with Rail Requests, I have done so. It's clearly unnecessary with the volume of traffic in RR to require a regular board. It is now a child board of HA&V.
Also, given that it is redundant, I have eliminated Life in General, and moved the latest topics to the Igloo. But, hack that I am, I ended up deleting most of the old stuff thinking it could be moved when I deleted the board. I was incorrect in that assumption. But I did at least move the recent topics just in case, so it shouldn't be an issue.
Now more contested and less obvious revisions I intend to hash out with these three who have volunteered their ideas. No one has objected to a reorganization, so we're going to go ahead and try to hash these three plans into one, at which time we will put it up for an forum-wide approval vote.
