I have read countless stories of talented poker pros getting caught up in sports betting. and, that became the biggest leak in their bankroll.

I can only speak for myself , but if you develop a betting system, and stick to it , it can be profitable imo .

There's money to be made there, but to me it spoils the fun making work out of it.  It takes a lot of research to really do it right, and having investment in outcomes makes it less fun for me.  I'll place a little friendly wager on a game here and there, but only for fun.

depends on how much work you're putting into it, how good you are overcoming emotions and most important--how much vig you're paying.  I don't believe in the long run it's possible to overcome the vig.  Take the example of NFL betting, betting a line, getting paid 10 for 11, you have to win about 60% of your bets to show any profit.

So best advice, bet with your friends, then you're not paying the commission.

Last WSOP, I was staying at the Rio -- and the Wings/Pens stanley cup final game 7 was happening-- I was at the bar area by the Sports bet. Surrounded by Pens fans (sigh) -- but I thought about betting for the Wings to win -- so I walked into the pit, and a guy noticed we were clueless about reading the board and odds, and the Wings were huge favs.

So a guy was nice enough to explain them to us -- I had to bet something like 200 to just win 100. I passed, and credited it to not wanting to jinx them LOL

It blew that the Wings lost, but at least I didn't loss 200 on top of it --- we actually left early when the Wings were getting killed, we  hit a tourney on the Strip and I won $500. So it was a good and bad evening.

there are numerous thing to consider in sports betting that some people dont think of, and that is why they make the size of their bankroll smaller...

There is one way you can win...play on this site. Its a site that is basically freeroll sports betting. The monies are all from the ads they post. Give it a whirl.

you can definately win money from a bookie, just make sure you dont go crazy betting everygame ever night . I had to learn the hard way losing $1,350 in one week. Yeah it sure does get you blood going when you lose, but the feeling you get when you win is priceless. Pick one game a night that really looks appealing, and I agree dont bet with your heart or your fav team..lol

I feel you on the wings man , my fav team as well..

Yeah, I'd say it's profitable....

I know some sports better than others that I place wagers on.... I find that if you pay attention to little things like how the players are generally feeling.. are they hurt, tired, ready to go home??

Do you know the names of the players on the teams?? How the players match up in their respective positions? (that one is huge, imo)

I know it isn't much, but this can be applied to any sport -> I can bet football pretty well, basketball, so-so, and can't win a favorite in baseball, not that I don't try, I just don't know it as well.

---------glad it's football season again----------------

With the holiday sports times coming up...I just wanted to remind everyone to check out centsports, a freeroll sports betting site that is pretty cool. You cannot put any money in and they stake you with a dime, which is replenished any time that you lose it. It is all paid for by the ads that are floating around the site. If you get to 20 bucks or over you can cash and they send you a check. If anyone wants to check it out, here is the link....

Good luck toi all, and Happy Thanksgiving! !
