Another hypothetical question.

Lets say you're an hour into an online low buyin MTT, with a roughly average stack of 50 BB.  All of a sudden a player starts shoving over 50% of his hands, showing holdings like K8, A4, etc.  You're in the BB and dealt 77.  it folds to villain and he shoves, then the action folds around to you.

Question 1.  Do you call?
Question 2:  What's the lowest pair you would call with in this situation?

Yes I'm calling, and I'd say 77 minimum just because I feel like a lot of the time he's shoving with K6 lower and A6 lower.

would need more information,  like what's his stack size.  How many people are left in the tournament,

I do sometimes make these calls but I actually see it as a weakness in my game--when I have a 50BB stack I can afford to be patient, so I'd say I'm making the call w/ 99+, AK, AQ if his stack is 20BB  or more.  Under 20 BB I would probably call with the 77.

Under 10 BB would definitely call with any pair, any ace, any two face.

A really good example of this can be seen at merge...... (Carbon, Bonitas, Bet bet, PDC, whatever one you happen to be playing).... when you compare the two (or even three) different games... Standard 2$STT, 10$STT, and FunStep1,2,or3).

With the Funsteps - They are almost always shove fests - everybody and their brother are drawing for the ace and 23os ends up taking 4 out on the first hand. That doesn't stop the rest... you may end up with two or three in funstep3 who are actually playing cards... even then, you've got the bluffer who shoves everything including his finger up his @#$% (god I hate those guys).

Similar situation in the 1 and 2$ games where you can get a feel for the guy who calls damn near everything and it does get easy to call his @$$ down to the wire.

It gets a little more difficulty in the 5 and ten dollar stt's because folks simply tighten up there - however you still get the one or two guys who hit bunches and loosen up enuff so that they swamp themselves shoving their j8suited.

...though the differences in those games (funsteps compared to twenty five dollar stt's for example), are extreme and you can't make the same decision in that higher dollar game that you would in the lower game in the same situation (calling the shovel-head).

just an opinion and I prolly wandered away from the subject a little.....

Quite all right.  I should have been more specific, as Woody said.  Assume Villain has you covered, and the MTT is a $4 buyin an hour in and over a thousand entries (so relatively early).

Generally I agree with Woody here.  It also depends what position I'm in and how many players are still to act behind me.
With 50BBs I can wait to pick him off.

Yes, with 50 BBs there is no hurry to lose half your chips to a maniac. 10's+ and AK for me to warrant an encounter.

Not sure if I call with sevens, definitely with nines though, and AJ up considering his rep.
