Ok, Im at the final table with 4 players left. UTG has 13k, I have 8k, Blinds are 800,400. UTG min raises to 1400 and I push 8k with AK and he calls and shows 66?
To me, I dont understand playing for couple hours ,all to get so far and that close from a win just to call a shove with 3/4 my stack with 66.
And I was on form playing very tight aggresive the whole game.

And dont ask how much I lost because I won $1.

My play as UTG in same situation

I am not under 10 big blinds left. With 13K I am 3-betting 2400 with 6 6 instead of min- raising. With only 4 people left and my stack bigger than yours. I would probably take a shot to knock you out and call your push. Need to chip up soon anyway. May not see a better opportunity later.

You're under 10 M though and you're about to go through the blinds losing 10% of your stack. Raising for 20% of your stack to fold to a shove is a waste of chips, so I think shoving for the Fold Equity is the best play.

I would also suggest raising smaller than 3x in this situation anyway. Your open should be the same in all situations and raising to 2.5 or 2.2 will get people to fold just as easily as raising to 3x and if you do have to fold to a 3 bet than you have saved yourself some valuable chips. 3x is okay at the beginning of a tourny when you've got 100 or 50 BB as you need to build the pot if you want to get all the chips in the middle. but when everyones stack is so small compared to the blinds you can easily get all the chips in by the turn if you need to.

+1

I tried to think of table dynamics that would change this, but only a straight shove makes sense.

If the table has been playing tight, a shove wins the blinds a large portion of the time.
If the table has been playing looser, the calling range of those to act widens and improves our chances to win.

Also, +1 to raising smaller when the blinds get higher. If you raise to 2400 and get a caller, you only have a stack of around ~10k left and the pot can be as big as 6k - doesn't leave you with a lot of options for post-flop play. If you instead raise to 1800, you now have a pot of 5k with an 11k stack to work with.
